Early Life and Education

Dr. John Kevan Healy, a North Sydney Boys High School alumnus, embarked on his medical journey at Sydney University from 1951 to 1956. During his time at Sydney University, he excelled academically, earning prestigious prizes in biochemistry and clinical medicine. His academic prowess also led to his appointment as a Prosector in Anatomy, highlighting his dedication and skill in the medical field.

Hospital Appointments

  • After graduating, Dr. John Kevan Healy began his medical career as a Resident Medical Officer and Medical Registrar at the Royal North Shore Hospital, where he worked for three years. He then moved to St. Vincent's Hospital, serving as a Medical Registrar.

  • In 1961, Dr. Healy joined the Dialysis Unit at Sydney Hospital, which was the only dialysis unit in New South Wales at the time. The unit faced an overwhelming number of acute renal failure cases, and Dr. Healy played a pivotal role in addressing these challenges. He performed over 100 dialysis sessions using the Kolff twin coil Travenol machine, providing critical care to many patients. His efforts were recognized and appreciated, demonstrating his dedication and expertise in the field of nephrology.
